Rotary Youth Leadership Awards held annually each July took place July 18 -20, 2019 on the Campus of Ohio University Athens. This years camp was attended by 86 High School Sophomores & Juniors from throughout Central & Southeastern Ohio.

The Rotary Club of Dublin Worthington sponsored THREE students participation at RYLA this year:
Owen Appel - from Thomas Worthington HS

Rish Desai -- from Dublin Scioto HS
Sylvia Long - from Worthington Kilbourne HS

These students listened to speakers, and participated in activities inspired to help in the further development of their leadership skills. They learned about the different leadership styles; ways to better communicate and how to work together as a team. Students learn about Rotary and it's values of Integrity, Service and more.

Many of the students arrive the first day not knowing anyone or what to expect, but by the end of the first day they have formed new bonds and friendships. The transition in these students after 3 days at RYLA is astounding. Just prior to the closing ceremony on Saturday the students participate in an activity called the web -- where they each hold on to a string of yarn and share what they learned from their experience. Hearing their candid thoughts on what the RYLA experience has taught them and seeing the web of yarn uniting all of them together is often a highlight of their experience.

We know that we may not reach everyone of these students; but we are confident that we have inspired many of them to become better leaders with an increased awareness of the skills needed & understanding of what makes a good leader.
